Deed Recording Fees
In addition to the basic recording fee of $14.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each page there are other fees which may be due on deeds.
Collection fees include:
Documentary Transfer Tax - (Revenue and Taxation Code 11911)
When consideration or value of the interest or property conveyed (exclusive of the value of any lien or encumbrance remaining thereon at the time of sale) exceeds one hundred dollars ($100.00) a tax at the rate of fifty-five cents ($0.55) for each five hundred dollars ($500.00) or fractional part thereof.
City Real Property Transfer Tax- the City of Richmond has a city tax computed on the full value of the property being transferred. The tax rate is $7.00 per thousand or fractional part thereof. The city tax is collected in addition to the documentary transfer tax.
Survey Monument - Monument Preservation Fund Fee (Gov. Code 27585)
An additional $10.00 is required when the legal description refers to any of the following:
A portion of a lot in a subdivision
A parcel on a parcel map
A parcel on a survey map
A metes & bounds description
Certificate of Correction
The Survey Monument fee is not collected on a deed to or from a government agency, a quitclaim deed or an affidavit death of joint tenant/trustee.
Quitclaim Deed - (SB 1342) Effective January 1, 2013, an additional $3 REF (Real Estate Fraud) fee will be collected. View our updates page for more information regarding this program.
Preliminary Change of Ownership Report (PCOR) Penalty - if a document evidencing a change in ownership is presented to the Recorder for recordation without the concurrent filing of a PCOR, the Recorder may charge an additional recording fee of twenty dollars ($20).
